Belfast has been in the press lately for attacks that were carried out against the Roma community which were senseless and heartbreaking and a complete embarrassment for any right minded person living here. Another traveller community – the irish traveller community – are also a minority group that are often subjected to discrimination and so it was interesting to see some caravans with protest  signs hitched up at the front of City Hall in an effort to draw attention to the problems they face. I say good luck to them – Racism is a problem endemic throughout europe and the rest of the world but with the events of the last fortnight here, we obviously need to take a hard look at ourselves.
