So I’m starting a doodle sourdough starter by taking some flour and water (like, 1 tablespoon of each) and placing it in a jar with some air holes at the top. The idea is that you begin to ‘feed’ your starter between three times a day and once a day until it begins to bubble (I think) after microbes from the air have made their home in the mixture and act like yeast. Oh, and you can’t use metal or plastic apparently.. I think the metal can kill off the microbes or possibly taint or react with the starter mixture to produce a weird taste… and I don’t know what the deal is with plastic but maybe it jars with the evangelical sourdough bakers. Anyway, I’m hoping the starter works well so I can get baking doodle sourdough bread!
